01

Context

MuuVZ is a carpooling platform in production in Canada, operated by ATI. One product, two names: it was rebranded from CarpoolXpress while I was on the team.

02

Problem

Ship the product’s first mobile app, keep the web app and the real-time messaging running through a rebrand, and give the team a safe way to operate its databases.

03

What I did

Senior web & mobile engineer, then tech lead with full ownership of the product (June 2024 – June 2026).

04

Key technical decisions

  1. React Native from day one

The first mobile app was designed and built entirely in React Native with Expo: passenger and driver flows, booking, messaging and notifications.

  2. Dedicated real-time server

A Node.js WebSocket server handles in-app messaging, separate from the main API.

  3. Smart DB View

A dedicated, hardened online platform to manage and distribute ATI’s PostgreSQL databases, instead of exposing database ports to the team.

05

Result

The mobile app and web app are in production in Canada.
