01

Context

Career-document tools are built for markets with card payments and Latin scripts. CV Action targets the African market, where payment rails and languages are different.

02

Problem

Generate documents whose exported PDF is identical to the on-screen preview, accept payments through African aggregators, and support right-to-left Arabic alongside five other languages.

03

What I did

Product, architecture and development at Think Dev (July 2023 – February 2024), deployed with Docker on a VPS.

Key technical decisions

  1. One data source for every document

CV, cover letter, portfolio, business card and signature all read from the same profile, so updating one updates all.

  2. Playwright for strict-fidelity PDFs

PDFs are rendered by the same engine as the preview, which guarantees preview/export parity.

  3. An in-house A4 pagination engine

Content is paginated deliberately for A4 instead of relying on the browser’s print breaks.

  4. Multi-aggregator payments

Payments go through several aggregators to absorb the diversity of African payment rails.

  5. Six languages, including RTL

Internationalisation covers six languages, with right-to-left layout for Arabic.
